Originally from Ventura, California, Chef Ian Algerøen opened Restaurant Skadi December 21, 1995 in Mammoth Lakes, California. Prior to opening his own restaurant Algerøen studied culinary arts and learned from notable chefs in a variety of fine dining restaurants.
Most notably, Algerøen worked as a pastry cook at the Lipizzaner, a fine French-Viennese restaurant in San Francisco; Chef Tournant during the game season at the Hotel Biberenbad, in Switzerland; and Chef De Cuisine of the Blue Fox, a fine Northern Italian restaurant in San Francisco.
The ambiance and cuisine at Restaurant Skadi is a reflection of Algerøen’s Norwegian heritage and his time working in the Swiss Alps. With classic French cooking techniques and a wine list that is carefully crafted to pair with the food, Skadi is recognized as a paradigm for upscale dining in Mammoth Lakes.
